GRE Tips

GENERAL TIPS:

1. GRE is not a difficult test. You have to tackle it technically and first and foremost you have to learn to be confident.

...

2. Preparation can take anything from 1 month to 3 months depending on where you stand before you start preparing.

3. The only way to score well in GRE is to practice hard and work on your time management and problem solving skills.

PREPARATION SPECIFIC TIPS/MATERIALS:

1. ETS Website
In my opinion this is the best point to start your preparation. Just open ETS website and go through all the material that is given there.

2. Power Prep software
Take Power-prep Practice test and Power prep test 1 at start of your preparation. This will tell you where you stand as a test taker and how much hard work you need to put in. It will also tell you about your weaker areas.

After you have prepared and are satisfied with your preparation take power-prep test 2. This score will be almost equal to your actual score.

3. Download ETS official books
These books have detailed preparation materials and because they come directly from test takers they are the most authentic resource. Go through official GRE guide by ETS in detail and attempt sample and practice questions that are given. After that you can start solving Official GRE Quantitative reasoning questions and Verbal reasoning questions given in separate books.

4. For Vocabulary Download Magoosh Flashcards in your android mobile and Install Magoosh Web Vocabulary App in your browser.
Make a routing to go through specific number of words and keep revising them. Best thing about Magoosh flash cards is that they give example sentences.

5. Download Magoosh Preparation Videos
I found them very useful specially for Verbal preparation. I also made a routine to listen to quantitative lessons of the topics that i thought i was not very good at.

6. Manhattan Books.
You can download Manhattan books or buy them as they are very useful. Specially their 5 Lb. practice book is extremely useful for practice. There Sentence equivalence and Text completion questions are good.

7. Kaplan test/Barrons test
You can take these tests for practice. It wont be as hard as official GRE tests but none the less it is good to practice.

8. Manhattan free practice test
This test is quite difficult and you should definitely attempt this.

ANALYTICAL WRITING:
For Analytical writing I just focussed on ETS official website where all the topics are given.
